Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The police in Magdeburg arrested a wanted criminal. The 25-year-old was sentenced in November 2020 by the Magdeburg district court to a fine of 1,000 euros or 50 days in prison for theft, as the federal police announced on Friday. Since he had only paid a small part of the fine so far, a so-called arrest warrant was issued against him in May of this year.
According to the police, the man wanted to steal a grounding cable on a railway line on Thursday afternoon and was seen by a witness. Alarmed police officers arrested the man. Among other things, a bolt cutter and suspected heroin were found on him. Since he could not pay the outstanding amount of his sentence, he was taken to a detention center. The police are investigating particularly serious theft and illegal drug possession.
