Saxony-Anhalt: the state is preparing for an emergency without electricity

Halle (dpa/sa) - Saxony-Anhalt wants to be prepared for a blackout in view of the energy crisis. The state administration office has drawn up an emergency plan for a long-lasting, large-scale power failure. "You have to prepare for all scenarios. We hope that these will not occur," said the authority's president, Thomas Pleye, on Wednesday in Halle. For example, it is important to have emergency power generators in stock in case of an emergency. In addition, it must be ensured that communication takes place via an independent radio network and that the IT technology works. "If nothing works, you have to work with messengers who deliver the news," explained Pleye.

The state administration office is the upper civil protection authority for Saxony-Anhalt. It maintains a permanently operational civil protection staff. This consists of 80 employees from all departments of the authority, who work around the clock in an emergency. The districts are also asked to create concepts for a total power failure.

Pleye appealed to the population to deal with the instructions from the Federal Office for Disaster Control. This includes an adequate supply of food, candles and a battery-operated radio. In an emergency, it is important to get information quickly. "Without electricity, many devices cannot be used," emphasized Pleye.
