Saxony-Anhalt: There is a high risk of forest fires everywhere in the state

Halberstadt (dpa/sa) - In Saxony-Anhalt there is a sometimes very high risk of forest fires. As the Landeszentrum Wald announced on its website on Tuesday, the highest danger level five currently applies in seven regions. These include the Altmark district of Salzwedel, Wittenberg with the Dübener Heide, but also the Börde north of Autobahn 2. In the other regions of the state, the second highest forest fire warning level is four, such as in the Harz Mountains and in the Salzland district. According to the state forest law, at warning level five it is forbidden to enter the forest outside of paths.

According to the State Center for Forest, there were more than twice as many forest fires in Saxony-Anhalt in the first six months of this year as in the whole of 2021. From January to the end of June 2022, a total of almost 18 hectares went up in flames with 80 fires. In the same period last year there were 24 fires on a good 12 hectares, in the entire previous year there were 39 fires on 23 hectares.
