Lutherstadt Wittenberg (dpa/sa) - Thomas T. Müller has been the new director and board member of the Luther Memorials Foundation in Saxony-Anhalt since Wednesday. He has taken over from Stefan Rhein, who retired on January 31st. Rhein has been the director of the foundation for more than 25 years. His successor Müller was recognized by Minister of Culture Rainer Robra (CDU) as a technically accomplished Reformation specialist. With him, a scientifically and museum-wide recognized expert has been gained. Müller had stated that he saw new perspectives, especially in the field of digitization and internationalization.
Müller was born in 1974 in Eichsfeld, Thuringia, as the foundation announced. He studied mediaeval and modern history, prehistory and early history, art history and archival studies in Göttingen, Erfurt and Potsdam. He has been director of the Mühlhausen Museums since 2006 and President of the Thuringia Museum Association since 2019.
The Luther Memorials Foundation in Saxony-Anhalt was founded in 1997. It now appears under the Luther Museums brand. It combines five museums: Luther's birthplace and Luther's death house in Eisleben, Luther's parents' house in Mansfeld as well as the Luther House and the Melanchthon House in Wittenberg. The houses in Wittenberg and Eisleben have been UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 1996.
