Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - A draft of the new 2024 timetable provides improved connections for passengers in northern Saxony-Anhalt. The RE20 regional line between Uelzen and Magdeburg should run every hour instead of every two hours from December 2023, said a spokesman for Nahverkehrsservice Sachsen-Anhalt GmbH (Nasa) on Thursday. There are also additional stops along the route. Transport Minister Lydia Hüskens (FDP) spoke of a "significant improvement in the quality" of the connection for some places in the Altmark.
Additional train journeys are also planned between Stendal and Wolfsburg as well as Burg and Magdeburg, said the NASA spokesman. According to Nasa, the RE16 between Halle and Erfurt is to be “condensed” to a daily hourly cycle. The planned changes to the timetable are now online, the spokesman said. Until March 5, passengers can still send suggestions and information to NASA. But the basic structure of the plan is clear.
The spokesman made it clear that the new timetable also had disadvantages: among other things, passengers changing trains from the north of the state in Magdeburg would have to accept longer travel times for the direction of Halle and Leipzig. In addition, the trains between Magdeburg and Uelzen needed a few minutes longer for their journey due to additional stops.
With a view to the current year 2023, Minister Hüskens spoke of “fundamental changes” in local transport as a result of the planned Germany ticket. All actors are working hard to make preparations. Different systems would be coordinated here, which would take time.
