Saxony-Anhalt: Trade Association: Buyers usually stay away from Christmas Eve

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - In Saxony-Anhalt, the rush of customers looking for Christmas gifts at the last minute has largely failed to materialize, according to the trade. In the smaller towns in particular, fewer people made their way to the shops on Saturday. "The last-minute purchases were more spread out over the week overall," said Knut Bernsen, state manager of the Saxony-Anhalt trade association of the German Press Agency. Retail expects a "strong week" after Christmas. Experience has shown that the first gifts of money would then be implemented.

Bernsen also referred to a survey by the German Retail Association (HDE). Accordingly, vouchers were also the most popular Christmas present in 2022, followed by toys, books and stationery. After almost three years of the corona pandemic, more people were drawn to the cities again during the Christmas business.
