Saxony-Anhalt: Trial judge: Ministry of Justice changes recruitment practice

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - Saxony-Anhalt's Ministry of Justice is moving away from the previously customary rotation principle when hiring trial judges. A staggered assignment to different locations in the country during the probationary period should thus be eliminated in the future. Minister Franziska Weidinger (CDU) wants to announce corresponding plans this Wednesday, as the German Press Agency learned. The CDU politician wants to make it more attractive and family-friendly for lawyers to get started.

The probationary period at the beginning of a professional career usually lasts several years for judges, and they often have to complete various positions at courts or at the public prosecutor's office. In the future, the location will only be changed during testing if this is necessary or expressly desired for later use.

Most recently, the Ministry of Justice had already pooled its resources in recruiting personnel for the different areas of the judiciary and set up a new staff unit for "strategic personnel management in the judiciary". Previously, various departments had dealt with the issue of human resources.
