Burg (dpa/sa) - After a serious accident on the A2 near Burg (Jerichower Land district), a truck driver died in the hospital on Tuesday evening. The police announced on Wednesday. A truck drove into a traffic jam in front of a construction site between the Burg-Zentrum and Lostau junctions. The car crashed into another truck that was being pushed into a third truck. The 38-year-old driver and her 49-year-old passenger were trapped in the cab. Both came to a clinic with life-threatening injuries, where the driver succumbed to her injuries in the evening. The 57-year-old driver of the second truck suffered minor injuries.
In the aftermath of this accident, there was another accident in which a car driver drove into a traffic jam with his van and was fatally injured. According to the police, the man recognized the situation too late behind the Burg-Ost junction. His car crashed into a truck that was stopped. The 40-year-old was trapped in his vehicle, and rescue workers from the fire brigade could only rescue him dead. The truck driver was not injured.
As the police announced on Wednesday, three trucks and the van were towed away, and the lane towards Hanover was closed to the following traffic for a total of six hours. There was total damage of around 250,000 euros.
