Saxony-Anhalt: truck stopped with seven people smuggled on board

Könnern/Halle (dpa/sa) - The police stopped a truck with seven unauthorized people on board on the A14 in Saxony-Anhalt. As the federal police announced on Thursday evening in Magdeburg, they are now investigating, among other things, the smuggling of foreigners.

Accordingly, the driver of a Bulgarian truck had reported to the police by telephone that there were probably people on the loading area of his truck. The truck was then supposed to drive in the direction of Magdeburg to the nearest petrol station and rest area in Plötzetal near Könnern (Salzland district).

Emergency services heard knocking noises there and opened the loading area, where five men, a woman and a 16-year-old were discovered, according to the federal police. "All persons are in good condition, given the circumstances, and do not require any further medical care," it said.

According to the information, the extent to which the truck driver was involved in the smuggling is now the subject of the investigation. The Bulgarian driver, the underage Afghan and the six other people with Indian nationality were taken to the federal police station at Halle Central Station.
