Burg (dpa/sa) - A driver drove his van onto the end of a traffic jam on the A2 near Burg (Jerichower Land district) and was fatally injured. The man recognized the situation too late behind the Burg-Ost junction, the police said. His car crashed into a truck that was stopped. The 40-year-old was trapped in his vehicle, and rescue workers from the fire brigade could only rescue him dead. The truck driver was not injured. The A2 was completely closed in the direction of Hanover.
According to the police, it was a follow-up accident: an hour earlier, a truck had driven into a traffic jam in front of a construction site between the Burg-Zentrum and Lostau junctions. The car crashed into another truck that was being pushed into a third truck. A 38-year-old driver and her 49-year-old passenger were trapped in the cab. Both were taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The 57-year-old driver of the second truck suffered minor injuries.
