Saxony-Anhalt: Two cars collide on the A2: several injured

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - On Sunday morning, several people were injured in a traffic accident near Magdeburg on Autobahn 2. The accident occurred in the direction of Berlin within a bridge construction site over the Elbe, as announced by the Magdeburg fire brigade and the police on Sunday. According to a police spokesman, a driver from Berlin drove into a car driving in front of it without braking for reasons that have not yet been clarified. The car that caused the accident was thrown across the roadway and came to a stop at the right-hand crash barrier.

The force of the impact injured the Berliner and his 38- and 28-year-old passengers so badly that they had to be taken to nearby hospitals. A rescue helicopter was also used, the police spokesman said. The passenger and another person from the other vehicle suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

The Autobahn was completely blocked for about three hours during the rescue work in the direction of Berlin. The fire brigade also complained that it was difficult to get there, "because no emergency lane was formed to the accident site".
