Halle (dpa/sa) - The people in Halle and in the Saalekreis district have to adapt to various restrictions on Wednesday - including childcare. The reason is a warning strike in the public sector. The Verdi union has called on all municipal employees to do this. The appeal to participate in the walkout all day is aimed at employees in daycare centers and after-school care centers as well as in administration, the savings bank, the job center, the employment office and the city economy, as a union spokesman said.
With the warning strike, the unions say they want to increase the pressure on employers in the ongoing wage dispute. A demonstration is also planned in Halle on Wednesday (11:00 a.m.). The trade unions are demanding 10.5 percent more income from employers, but at least 500 euros more for the approximately 2.5 million employees in the public sector at federal and local level. The second wage round is planned for February 22nd and 23rd in Potsdam.
