Saxony-Anhalt: Willingmann calls for more help for the economy

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - Saxony-Anhalt's Environment Minister Armin Willingmann (SPD) has rejected calls by the AfD parliamentary group for an end to sanctions against Russia. The measures are correct, said the SPD politician on Wednesday in the state parliament. Against the background of increased energy prices, Willingmann called for further help for companies. "More needs to be done for the economy in the third relief package. That is still too vague."

At the weekend, the Berlin coalition agreed on a third relief package to cushion the rise in energy prices. Among other things, direct payments for pensioners and students, tax breaks and an increase in the standard rates for basic security and child benefit are planned.

In the debate, the AfD parliamentary group called for the sanctions against Russia to be ended and the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline to be put into operation. The sanctions did not harm Russia, but Germany, said energy policy spokesman Jan Moldenhauer.
