Saxony-Anhalt: Work on the graduation tower largely completed

Bad Dürrenberg (dpa/sa) - One of the most lengthy construction works at the graduation tower in Bad Dürrenberg (Saalekreis) has been completed. Saxony-Anhalt's Economics Minister Sven Schulze (CDU) opened the three-million-euro refurbished crosspiece on Friday. According to the city, the renovated part is part of the longest graduation tower in Germany and the second longest in the world.

The renovated graduation house section is around 130 meters long and includes 32 bundle bays. A total of 600 cubic meters of spruce and larch wood were used. The installed planks, boards, squared timber and handrails are laid side by side and are 2600 meters long. An area of 2,500 square meters had to be stuffed with blackthorn - according to the city administration, this corresponds to around 58,000 blackthorn bundles.

In 2024 the State Garden Show will take place in the city in the Saalekreis district. The Kurpark forms the core of the approximately 15-hectare State Garden Show grounds. There is the graduation house, which is said to be the longest connected, still preserved salt graduation house in Germany with a length of 636 meters. The exhibition was originally planned for 2022.
