Saxony-Anhalt: young people sentenced after a knife attack in school

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - After the knife attack on a classmate during class, a 16-year-old was sentenced to a youth sentence of three years. The district court of Magdeburg found her guilty of dangerous bodily harm. In addition, the placement of the young people in a psychiatric hospital was ordered, as a court spokesman announced on Tuesday. The accused has been temporarily accommodated there since she suffers from a mental illness.

On November 23, 2020, the then 15-year-old is said to have stabbed a classmate in the back with a knife and injured him in class at a school in Salzwedel (Altmarkkreis Salzwedel). The father of the 16-year-old has appealed the verdict, the court spokesman said. It is not yet legally binding.

The trial before the 2nd Juvenile Criminal Court at the Magdeburg District Court took place behind closed doors, as the accused is a juvenile and therefore has special protection under the law.
