Aschersleben (dpa/sa) - The Aschersleben zoo has put down the last of its white tigers, Karim. The animal had been repeatedly treated for various age-related diseases, and recently its condition had increasingly deteriorated, the Aschersleber Kulturanstalt announced on Wednesday. Since the chances of recovery were estimated to be low, the tiger was put to sleep. Karim came to Aschersleben in June 2007 and fathered children with his partner Kiara. Kiara died of kidney disease in 2019. So far it is unclear whether a new white tiger pair is being sought or whether the facility should be used differently.
