Saxony: Anniversary show at Herrnhut extended

Herrnhut (dpa/sn) - The exhibition on 300 years of Herrnhut (Görlitz district) will be extended by one month. The special show entitled "Awakening. Network. Remembrance" can be seen until December 30 of this year, the Ethnological Museum in Herrnhut announced on request. The exhibition, which opened in April, shows numerous original objects from local history, which mainly come from the collection of the local history museum and from the archive of the Evangelical Brothers' Unity. Herrnhut was founded in 1722 as a settlement for Protestant religious refugees. The Evangelical Moravian Church, which later spread worldwide, has its origins there.

The founding of Herrnhut can be dated exactly to the day: On June 17, 1722, the first tree for the construction of the settlement was felled. In the course of the anniversary year, there was surprisingly broad coverage of Herrnhut in national media, said the head of the culture and tourism office, Konrad Fischer. It is difficult to measure the noticeably increased attention that this has caused and it probably does not immediately trigger an impulse to travel. "However, knowledge about this is being deposited," said Fischer. Several publications that appeared on the occasion of the anniversary also contribute to this.
