Saxony: Another call for a warning strike in the Zwickau drive shaft plant

Zwickau (dpa/sn) - In the fight to preserve the cardan shaft plant in Zwickau, IG Metall again called on the 835 employees to go on warning strikes. After last Friday's kick-off, the men and women were again asked on Wednesday to finish their work a few hours earlier. The morning shift starts at 10 a.m., explained Benjamin Zabel from IG Metall Zwickau. Later, actions by late and night shifts were also planned. "Management and owners must finally realize that a silent plant closure is not possible with this workforce," emphasized Zabel.

The automotive supplier GKN wants to close the plant in the Mosel district of Zwickau for the foreseeable future. Cardan shafts for cars are manufactured there. The decision was justified with a declining capacity utilization and falling prices. The union is demanding a social wage agreement to protect employees. Negotiations to date have not yet resulted in an agreement.
