Dresden (dpa/sn) - Anyone who works with refugee children in Saxony can apply for the so-called Sterntaler Prize until August 20th. The award is endowed with 3000 euros, as the Foreigners Commissioner Geert Mackenroth (CDU) announced on Friday in Dresden. The prize has been awarded since 2015. Mackenroth pointed out that at that time many children from refugee families had been integrated into the school system within a short period of time. Now there is a similar challenge with the Ukraine war.
According to the Commissioner for Foreigners, almost 10,000 Ukrainian children are registered in Saxony's schools. The award will be presented in the state parliament on September 20, World Children's Day.
