Saxony: Around 47 million euros for the new construction of the Chemnitz Clinic

Chemnitz (dpa/sn) - On Wednesday, the hospital received funding of around 47 million euros for the construction of a cardiology center at the Chemnitz Clinic. With the new building, the clinic is breaking new ground as a maximum care provider for the region of Southwest Saxony in order to secure medical care for the future, especially in the more rural area and in challenging times of scarce resources, said Minister of Health Petra Köpping (SPD) when handing over the funding decision Wednesday in Chemnitz. The funding by the Free State should underline the important role of the clinic in the Saxon hospital landscape.

When the decision was handed over, the planning for the new building should also be presented and the construction site should be inspected. "With the new construction of the cardiology center, we will completely reorganize the dovetailing of outpatient, inpatient and acute treatment," said the medical director of the clinic, Ralf Steinmeier. The spatial structure for the care of patients should also be improved. At the moment, supply rooms are sometimes up to several hundred meters apart.

The new heart medicine center will provide around 7,000 square meters of acute care as well as outpatient and inpatient care. According to a statement from the hospital and the Ministry of Health, construction is scheduled to be completed by mid-2025.
