Leipzig (dpa/sn) - The Federal Association of Wind Energy Saxony (BWE) has described the package of laws passed by the federal government for the rapid expansion of green electricity from wind and sun as a "warning shot" for the Free State. Saxony must now allocate two percent of its state area to wind energy by 2032, but so far it has only been 0.2 percent. "With the laws that have now been passed, the federal government is making it unmistakably clear that the federal states have an obligation. The expansion of wind energy, as the legislator put it, is of paramount public interest," explained the Saxon BWE state head Martin Maslaton. Saxony must now use all possibilities to end the blockade of wind energy.
According to the BWE, Saxony is at the bottom of the list when it comes to the expansion of wind energy in a comparison of the federal states. "In recent years, more wind power has been reduced in the state than new wind power has been added. From January to May of this year, only two new wind turbines were installed in Saxony and two new ones were approved." According to the 2019 coalition agreement, at least 170 new wind turbines should be in place by 2024.
