Saxony: Barmer: dental health in Saxony is getting better and better

Dresden (dpa / sn) - According to the Barmer, the dental health of the people in Saxony is getting better and better. The intervals without treatment would be longer, the health insurance company announced on Monday in Dresden. "This also has to do with the incipient change from therapy-oriented dentistry to prevention-oriented dentistry," explained Saxon Barmer boss Fabian Magerl. This change is far from complete, but the direction on the way there is right.

According to the analyses, 20-year-olds can get by on average for around three and a half years without dental interventions. Comparing the years 2012 and 2020, this period grew by four months, it said. The data for 40-year-olds show an even clearer increase in the number of therapy-free periods. They did not need treatment for an average of just over 11 months in 2012; in 2020 it was almost 16 months. In people over the age of 60, the intervals without surgery increased from almost ten to around 12 months in the same period.

According to the report, more people go to the dentist regularly in Saxony than in other federal states. A total of 74.4 percent of the insured had been to the dentist at least once in 2020 - the highest rate nationwide.
