The armored personnel carrier of the type Dachs arrived in the fire area on Tuesday, said Bundeswehr spokesman Eric Gusenburger. The tank should cut a twelve-kilometer swath through an ammunition-loaded area by Wednesday. On the way prepared in this way, the fire brigade can then extinguish the sources of fire on the left and right. The area used to be a military training area. The tank came from Panzerpionierbataillon 701 in Gera.
The situation in the Gohrischheide had initially defused after precipitation on Tuesday night. The fire broke out last Thursday and had spread to Brandenburg. The situation seemed to be under control at the weekend, but worsened again on Monday due to the freshening wind. The district of Meissen had asked the Bundeswehr for administrative assistance.
