Saxony: Bishops of the churches in Saxony meet with the government

Dresden (dpa/sn) - After a two-year break due to corona, the bishops of the Catholic and Protestant churches active in Saxony are resuming regular meetings with the state government. Next Tuesday (December 6) they want to talk to Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) and ministers about current social challenges, as the diocese of Dresden-Meissen announced on Wednesday. The round in the house of the cathedral in Dresden should deal with questions of cohesion and solidarity, but also the mutual expectations of state and church towards each other, also against the background of the pandemic, the energy crisis and the Russian war against Ukraine.

Host Heinrich Timmerevers, bishop of the diocese of Dresden-Meissen, also has the bishops of the regional churches of Saxony, Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia and Central Germany, Tobias Bilz, Christian Stäbler and Friedrich Kramer, as well as the bishops of the dioceses of Görlitz and Magdeburg, Wolfgang Ipolt and Gerhard Feige, invited. The last time there was an encounter of this kind was in June 2019, after which scheduled appointments were canceled due to the corona.
