Saxony: Blocking of the B95 near Zwenkau for construction work on the A72

Zwenkau (dpa/sn) - Due to construction work on the last section of the Autobahn 72 between Chemnitz and Leipzig, the Bundesstraße 95 near Zwenkau (Leipzig district) has to be closed for four days from Friday. Between October 28 from 9 a.m. and October 31 until 5 a.m., a 79-meter-long bridge is to be turned over the new autobahn at the future Zwenkau junction, as a spokesman for Autobahn GmbH in Halle said. With the help of a heavy-duty crane, the structure, which weighs around 1,650 tons, is finally to be placed in its final position on so-called abutments - at the level of Böhlen.

In order to keep traffic restrictions as low as possible, the blocking period is during the autumn holidays and on weekends. Traffic will be diverted. Nevertheless, it is recommended to drive around the area extensively.

The 62-kilometer-long motorway connection from the Bavarian Vogtland via Chemnitz to Leipzig has been in the works since 2003. Since October 2019, traffic has been moving in both directions on the section between Borna and Rötha (both in the Leipzig district).

The work on the last section from Rötha is extremely difficult, since more than 80 percent of the route runs on former opencast mining land, explained Winter. The loosely heaped up soil had to be stabilized and compacted in various steps. A release of the piece is planned for next year.
