Saxony: blue-green algae at Berzdorfer See: swimming areas closed

Görlitz (dpa / sn) - Blue-green algae have been discovered on Lake Berzdorf in East Saxony. The city of Görlitz announced that the bathing areas on the north beach and on the north-east beach were closed. Blue-green algae are so-called cyanobacteria. Skin contact may cause skin irritation or allergic reactions. The fire brigade will control the Berzdorfer See in the next few days. The closure of the bathing areas was marked with hoisted red flags. Blue-green algae have already appeared on various bodies of water in Saxony this year, such as the Bautzen dam or the Karl-Heine Canal in Leipzig.
