Saxony: "CAGGTUS": Leipzig Trade Fair launches new gaming festival

Leipzig (dpa/sn) - After the end of the Dreamhack in Leipzig, the Leipzig Trade Fair is starting a new gaming festival. The event called "CAGGTUS" is to be held for the first time from April 14 to 16, 2023, as the fair announced on Wednesday. The new event will be designed as a meeting of the gaming community with many opportunities to get involved.

After the Games Convention moved to Cologne and Dreamhack emigrated, this is the third attempt that the trade fair is making on the subject of computer games. "Gaming belongs in Leipzig and will stay in Leipzig," said Messe Managing Director Markus Geisenberger.

The festival will consist of an entertainment and streaming area as well as a large LAN party. It thus adopts essential program points that also attracted the audience at Dreamhack. "CAGGTUS" should no longer only have professional e-sports tournaments with high prize money. Cosplay and casemod should be part of it again.

Unlike Dreamhack, which had a Swedish licensor, the fair is organizing the new festival entirely on its own. "We have gained a lot of expertise and learned a lot," said Messe boss Geisenberger. That flows into the new concept. The name of the event is derived from a popular accessory that many players placed next to their computers at the previous festival: a cactus.

According to the trade fair, it has not yet been decided how many places there will be for visitors aged 18 and over at the LAN party. The previous festival had last offered 2080 places. "We want to be one of the really big LANs in Europe," stressed Geisenberger. The entertainment hall will be open to visitors aged 12 and over.

The Dreamhack had been held in Leipzig since 2016. 23,000 visitors came to the last event before Corona 2020. "There is a phase where you realize that it's better if everyone goes their own way," said Geisenberger at the farewell to this trade fair from Leipzig. In winter there will be a Dreamhack in Hanover from December 15th to 18th.
