Saxony: Cats in the Semperoper: the successful musical "Cats" returns

Dresden (dpa/sn) - With the musical "Cats" animal actors will take over the stage of the Semperoper in Dresden in the coming days. The musical classic from London's West End can be seen in the opera house every day except Mondays, and there are even two performances a day on the two weekend days, the organizer BB Promotion announced on Tuesday. Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Cats," with lyrics by T.S. Eliot, premieres Wednesday. The last day of play is August 7th.

"Cats" premiered in 1981 and revolutionized the world of musicals. According to the organizer, the "most famous cats in the world" have been able to break all records and have enchanted more than 73 million viewers in over 30 countries. A version can be seen in Dresden that was nominated in 2015 as "Best Musical Revival" for the Laurence Olivier Award - a British theater prize. Some of the song's melodies have become hits and classics in their own right, including "Memory".
