Saxony: Christians celebrate Ascension Day with outdoor services

Dresden (dpa/sn) - On mountains and meadows, in the forest and in the cemetery or underground, Saxon Christians want to celebrate Ascension Day this Thursday (May 26th). According to the regional church office, many festive services are planned in the parish gardens or parks in the evangelical regional church and should end with a community festival or a picnic. Hikes, bicycle tours and concerts are also planned.

The Dresden parish, for example, meets in the quarry near Oberwartha, the congregation in Pulsnitz for prayers in the cemetery, Löbau believers on the 454 meter high Rotstein and the Zittau people on the Buchberg. Also in the Stötterischer Grove, in the church ruins in Wachau or at the diving station of the Leipzig dolphins at the Kulkwitzer See, it is remembered that Jesus Christ, according to the report of the Evangelist Luke in the New Testament, showed himself 40 days after his resurrection from the dead and afterwards raised to the place at the right hand of God in heaven.

The ecumenical prayer in the bicycle church in Markkleeberg-Zöbigker is the prelude to a pilgrimage tour. At the family service at the St. Johannis youth church in Chemnitz, a prayer can be sent to heaven, followed by grilled sausages. The parishes of the Erzgebirge ridge region gather at the ruins near the church in Breitenbrunn - and in Stollberg in the forest pool.

Finally, the second Capital of Culture church service on the radio will be broadcast by MDR-Kultur from the prayer room of the Alte Elisabeth mine near the Ascension Fund pit in Freiberg, in which Saxony's top miner and the Freiberger Bergsänger also take part.
