Saxony: Christopher Street Day starts with a campaign week

Leipzig (dpa/sn) - The Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Leipzig is celebrating its 30th edition this year. At the start of the Leipzig CSD week 2022, the rainbow flag will be hoisted at the New Town Hall alongside the flags of the EU, Leipzig and Ukraine. Numerous events such as films, workshops, lectures and discussions will be offered daily until September 16th.

The highlight on Saturday (June 16) is a rally on Augustusplatz, followed by a demonstration and a street festival. The end of the program week "30 years CSD Leipzig - respect for everyone!" the Prideball will be in Täubchenthal again this year.

Christopher Street Day takes place every year in many cities around the world and commemorates the events of June 28, 1969: at that time, police officers stormed the New York gay and lesbian bar "Stonewall Inn" on Christopher Street, triggering multi-day protests by gays, lesbians and transsexuals. The CSD is intended to remind of the rights of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender, intersex and queer people.
