Saxony: City of Leipzig wants to save 15 percent energy with a step-by-step plan

Leipzig (dpa/sn) - Because of the uncertain gas supply situation, the city of Leipzig wants to save energy and, among other things, reduce room temperatures. "The goal of our joint efforts must be to save 15 percent of energy," said Mayor Burkhard Jung (SPD) on Wednesday, according to a statement in Leipzig City Hall. "I'm not just referring to gas, but to all fossil fuels and electricity." The city has drawn up a detailed step-by-step plan on how the energy supply can be guaranteed.

This includes, for example, lowering the temperature in administration rooms to 19 degrees or restricting the supply of hot water. "I have instructed that some of these measures, such as turning off effect lighting, mobile air conditioners and hot water boilers, are implemented immediately," said Jung. Decisions for the swimming pools and the school and cultural area should therefore be made by the end of August.
