Saxony: Climate activists continue to occupy the lecture hall at the University of Leipzig

Leipzig (dpa/sn) - Activists from the group "End Fossil: Occupy!" continue to occupy the Audimax of the University of Leipzig. On Tuesday morning there were almost 20 people in the lecture hall, said the university spokesman, Carsten Heckmann, at the request of the German Press Agency. The demonstrators have been in the hall since Monday afternoon. Among other things, they called on the university to become climate-neutral by 2030.

According to their own statements, the group had occupied more than 40 lecture halls worldwide in the past few months to campaign for climate protection. It is now a question of coming to a reasonable exchange, explained Heckmann. The university management wanted to speak to the activists. The Audimax is the university's largest lecture hall and is required for lectures with a high attendance. "Today alone, seven events from three faculties are in danger of being cancelled," says Heckmann.
