Saxony: Construction work on B95 completed: bridge in new position

Zwenkau (dpa/sn) - The construction work at the Zwenkau junction of the federal highway 95 in the district of Leipzig has been completed. The work all went according to plan, Tino Mohring from Autobahn GmbH told the German Press Agency on Sunday evening. In order to bring a new bridge into the right position with the help of a heavy-duty crane, the main road was completely closed from Friday morning.

After the necessary preparations were completed, the so-called turning of the 1650 ton and 79 long structure was completed on Sunday afternoon. The closure should be lifted by 5 a.m. the following day.

The construction work at Böhlen is part of the completion of the last section of the Autobahn 72 between Chemnitz and Leipzig. The 162-kilometer-long motorway link from the Bavarian Vogtland via Chemnitz to Leipzig has been in the works since 2003. Since October 2019, traffic has been moving in both directions on the section between Borna and Rötha (both in the Leipzig district). A release of the piece by Leipzig is planned for the coming year.
