Saxony: Consumer prices in Saxony are rising again

Kamenz (dpa/sn) - After slight declines in the previous months, the inflation rate in Saxony rose again in August. The annual inflation rate is expected to be 7.3 percent, the State Statistical Office announced on Tuesday. After 8 percent in May, there was a slight downward trend in June (7.7 percent) and July (7.2 percent).

According to the state office, the price increases were particularly noticeable when shopping. 16.3 percent more had to be paid for food and non-alcoholic beverages than a year ago. Parents also had to spend more on their children's school equipment - 9.2 percent more for fountain pens and other writing instruments, 7.9 percent for pads and 7.2 percent for school bags.

The 9-euro ticket provided relief. In the "combined passenger transport" segment, the statistics office registered a decline of 63.1 percent. The ticket expires at the end of August. The figures are provisional. They should be finalized on September 5th.
