Saxony: Contrary to the national trend, more apprenticeship contracts in the Saxon trades

Dresden (dpa / sn) - Saxony's craft is still very popular with young people. According to the Saxon Crafts Day, 5,600 new apprenticeship contracts were signed by the end of November for the 2022/2023 apprenticeship year. That is 2.5 percent more than at the same time last year, as spokesman Frank Wetzel said on Thursday. Contrary to the national trend, the positive development in the Free State is thus continuing. A drop of 2.1 percent was recorded across Germany.

The skilled trades of vehicle mechatronics technician, electronics technician and technician for plumbing, heating and air conditioning were particularly in demand. Wetzel said the popularity of the latter was encouraging because these skilled workers were urgently needed in the course of the energy transition. Apprenticeships for dental technicians, carpenters and opticians are in greater demand nationwide than in 2021. But there are still hundreds of open apprenticeships, including in the most sought-after professions. According to Wetzel, bricklayers, roofers, metalworkers, painters and varnishers as well as carpenters are still wanted in all regions.
