Saxony: Corona incidence in Saxony drops to 240.3

Leipzig (dpa/sn) - The corona incidence in Saxony has fallen in a weekly comparison. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave it 240.3 on Thursday, a week earlier the value was 286.7. The number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days for Germany was 271.3 (previous week: 314.2).

However, the incidence does not provide a complete picture of the infection situation. Experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of cases not recorded by the RKI, mainly because not all infected people have a PCR test done - only positive PCR tests count in the statistics.

Among the 13 Saxon regions, the Vogtland district (298.3) has the highest incidence, ahead of the city of Leipzig (282.7). According to the RKI, the value is currently lowest at 165.2 in the district of Görlitz.

According to the RKI, around 1.703 million infections have been registered nationwide since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020. The statistics show a total of 15,869 deaths related to the corona virus. Saxony has around four million inhabitants.
