Saxony: Corona incidence in Saxony drops to 369.1

Leipzig (dpa/sn) - The corona incidence in Saxony has fallen in a weekly comparison. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the value on Thursday as 369.1. A week earlier, the seven-day incidence was 489.1. The number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days for Germany was 451.3 (previous week: 630.4).

However, the incidence does not provide a complete picture of the infection situation. Experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of cases not recorded by the RKI, mainly because not all infected people have a PCR test done - only positive PCR tests count in the statistics.

Among the 13 Saxon regions, the district of Leipzig has the highest incidence with 448.9, ahead of the cities of Chemnitz (439.0) and Leipzig (435.5). According to the RKI, the value is currently lowest at 249.4 in the district of Görlitz.

According to the RKI, around 1.665 million infections have been registered nationwide since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020. The statistics show a total of 15,718 deaths related to the corona virus. Saxony has around four million inhabitants.
