Saxony: Corona incidence in Saxony drops to 489.1

Leipzig (dpa/sn) - The corona incidence in Saxony has fallen in a weekly comparison. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the value on Thursday as 489.1. A week earlier, the seven-day incidence was 551.1. The number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days for Germany was 630.4 (previous week: 740.3).

However, the incidence does not provide a complete picture of the infection situation. Experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of cases not recorded by the RKI, mainly because not all infected people have a PCR test done - only positive PCR tests count in the statistics.

Among the 13 Saxon regions, the city of Leipzig still has the highest incidence with 593.8, ahead of the Vogtland district (573.0) and the district of Leipzig (557.7). According to the RKI, the value is currently lowest at 314.5 in the district of Görlitz.

According to the RKI, around 1.647 million infections have been registered nationwide since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020. The statistics show a total of 15,685 corona deaths. Saxony has around four million inhabitants.
