Saxony: Customs discovered 25,000 cigarettes in a van near Görlitz

Görlitz (dpa/sn) - Customs officials seized around 25,000 cigarettes, 25 liters of schnapps and 750 liters of beer in a van near Görlitz. The officials checked the car last Friday in the town of Döbschütz, as the main customs office in Dresden announced on Tuesday. Accordingly, the driver and passenger stated before the find that they did not have any taxable goods with them. The officers discovered small amounts of marijuana and amphetamine and two weapons in the 35-year-old passenger, which were confiscated. After paying a security deposit, the men were allowed to continue driving. Customs is now investigating. The 26-year-old driver was stopped two years ago with a load of a similar size.
