Saxony: Day of Architecture: Around 60 houses and offices accessible

Dresden (dpa/sn) - On the Day of Architecture, numerous objects will open up this weekend for some exclusive views of the built and designed. Around 60 private houses, offices or companies are accessible under the motto "Architecture builds the future". The program includes guided tours, exhibitions and events. Visitors can talk to builders and creators and discover new things. "Come and see," advertises the Chamber of Architects.

Ideas for sustainable, climate-friendly buildings will be presented, such as the CUBE carbon concrete building in Dresden, a rural half-timbered house built with simple means and locally available building materials in the Lommatzscher Pflege district, or Saxony's first CO2-neutral, hydrogen technology, electrically and thermally self-sufficient building in Ursprung.

Visitors can also take a look around the Plus-Energy House for the Meteorology Institute of the University of Leipzig, a bakery in Markneukirchen that has been converted into a factory for brass instruments, or the new wooden building of a Leipzig office loft - as a passive house.

"Architecture must be sustainable and climate-friendly," the chamber explained, referring to the challenges of the time that the architects were facing. Resources are becoming scarcer, social needs for housing, work and leisure are subject to enormous change - and yet construction should remain affordable.
