Saxony: death by shot in the head: accused rejects murder intent

Leipzig/Schkeuditz (dpa/sn) - After the death of a 19-year-old as a result of a headshot in Schkeuditz, the 20-year-old accused rejected an intention to murder. As his defense attorney explained before the regional court in Leipzig on Friday, the deadly shot was fired when the victim took the gun out of the trunk of a car. He and the accused were on their way to hand over five kilograms of marijuana to a buyer near the federal highway 6 near Schkeuditz.

The shot hit the 19-year-old in the face, which is why he died immediately, the defender explained. The defendant then pulled a garbage bag over the corpse's head and buried it. According to the defense attorney, his client tried to settle debts in the high five-figure sum by dealing in drugs. The victim helped the accused.

At the start of the trial in early July, the accused remained silent. The 20-year-old was charged with murder in combination with particularly aggravated robbery resulting in death. According to the public prosecutor's office, he is said to have killed the 19-year-old in Schkeuditz on January 11 with a shot in the head. He is then said to have stolen the victim's sports bags containing several kilograms of cannabis flowers.

The district court has scheduled a total of 13 appointments until mid-November. The defense attorney announced a further statement from the defendant for the follow-up appointments.
