Saxony: Double Erich Ponto award ceremony for actors

Dresden (dpa/sn) - Because of the corona pandemic, the Friends of the Dresden State Theater are awarding two Erich Ponto prizes this year. In addition to awarding the 2022 award to actress Henriette Hölzel ("Babylon Berlin", "Tatort"), her colleague Jannik Hinsch, who had to be canceled in 2020, will be honored, as the theater announced on Monday. In doing so, the board of directors especially appreciates the enormous acting development of the two actors, who inspired the jury and the audience with their expressive acting in different roles. The young talent prizes are to be presented at a festive matinee on November 20th.

Hinsch and Hölzel, both born in 1994, studied at the Leipzig University of Music and Theater and were members of the Dresden Drama Studio. Hinsch, who comes from Baden-Württemberg, has been a member of the Dresden State Theater Ensemble since 2017, Hölzel since 2019 - after a stint at the Essen Theater (North Rhine-Westphalia).

The Ponto Prize, which is awarded every two years, commemorates one of the best-known German actors of the 20th century. Ponto (1884-1957) worked in the city on the Elbe from 1914 to 1946.
