Saxony: Dozens of investigations into the "Z" symbol in Saxony

Dresden (dpa/sn) - In Saxony, numerous cases are being investigated in connection with the Z symbol used by supporters of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine. According to the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) in Dresden, 71 investigations (as of May 17) have been initiated since February 24, where there is a connection. In 59 of the cases it is about the symbol, others are due to the use of signs of unconstitutional and terrorist organizations or damage to property.

The letter "Z", which has been used on tanks and uniforms by Russians and supporters since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, stands for "Za Pobedu" ("For Victory"). Anyone who shows it publicly can also be prosecuted in the Free State - each individual case and the context are examined.

Only on May 21 did two so-called Reich citizens provoke with a "Z" symbol on a window of their apartment in Riesa (Meissen district). The 54-year-old and a 59-year-old presented the police with "Reich identity cards" and described the officials as "personnel of the FRG without authorization". "Reichsbürger" and self-governers reject the existence of the Federal Republic of Germany and its institutions, including the courts.
