Saxony: driver without a license and insurance flees

Schkeuditz (dpa/sn) - A young driver with drugs in his luggage but without a driver's license and without insurance fled from a traffic check. Officials had previously discovered the car on the B 186 in Schkeuditz (Northern Saxony district) and found that the driver was driving without valid compulsory insurance, the police said on Sunday. When they then wanted to check the car, the man drove away in his car. The car came to a stop on the concrete ledge of a house wall. The driver fled on foot with his 37-year-old passenger. Both men were caught shortly afterwards.

The 25-year-old was driving without a license and was carrying a jar containing a crystalline substance that could potentially be a drug. The police are now investigating suspected endangerment of road traffic, prohibited motor vehicle racing, driving without a license and illegal possession of narcotics.
