Dresden (dpa/sn) - The Saxon Economics Minister Martin Dulig (SPD) has great expectations in connection with the nine-euro ticket. The ticket is a great opportunity, he said on Tuesday when asked. "We all hope that there will be a lasting effect and not just a short-term one for the next three months." It would be good if people saw local public transport as an alternative. "I have high expectations that it really works."
According to Dulig, Germany has to be careful that rising energy prices don't lead to major social upheavals: "People can see the problems we're facing at the petrol pump (...) We really have to be careful that energy costs don't become a social issue, whether you can afford or not." It is therefore important that the federal government has taken a variety of measures such as the nine-euro ticket and the fuel discount.
The ticket is a reaction to the sharp rise in energy costs and is intended to serve as a relief measure. It is offered in June, July and August and is valid throughout Germany for journeys on buses, trams and regional trains in 2nd class. An extra ticket is issued for each month. Motorists should also be relieved with a tank discount. Due to the rise in energy prices, the federal government is reducing the tax on fuel for three months from Wednesday. However, the mineral oil companies are not obliged to pass on the tax reduction to their customers.
