Saxony: Energy crisis: Dresden Frauenkirche soon in the dark

Dresden (dpa / sn) - The Dresden Frauenkirche is no longer illuminated at night from Sunday. Because of the acute energy crisis, the evening outdoor lighting will be switched off "until further notice", the Frauenkirche Foundation announced on Friday. The waiver is part of extensive considerations for long-term energy savings, said Managing Director Maria Noth.

In the coming weeks and months, the focus will also be on changed lighting concepts inside the world-famous building and changes in the room climate. Certain specifications regarding temperature and humidity would have to be adhered to in order to preserve the late Baroque church, which was rebuilt from the ruins of the war. Since 2010, the interior and exterior have been gradually switched to LED lighting in the interest of sustainability.
