Saxony: Environment Minister: Leipzig repair bonus a success

Leipzig (dpa / sn) - Saxony's Environment Minister Wolfram Günther sees the Leipzig test run for a repair bonus as a success. The evaluation of the pilot project showed that 682 products were repaired, the Greens politician said on Wednesday. The majority were electrical and electronic devices, but bicycles and leather goods were also brought in for repairs. The project aims to help reduce waste.

Günther explained that the pilot project brought important insights into the planned nationwide repair bonus. On a small scale, it did exactly what the bonus is supposed to do: reduce waste and save raw materials. In the course of the decision on the double budget, the state parliament must also decide on the repair bonus.

In the summer, the Free State made around 42,500 euros available for the Leipzig project. The State Environment Agency will shortly present a final report.
