Saxony: Farmers are demanding different lease conditions

Meissen/Taucha (dpa/sn) - At a nationwide day of action, farmers in Saxony also demonstrated for more public interest orientation when leasing public areas. The previous practice of allocating land according to the highest bid and customary law puts regional businesses and start-ups at a disadvantage, the working group on rural agriculture criticized on Friday. According to the information, catalogs of demands were handed over to municipal representatives in several cities, for example in Meißen and Taucha.

The association calls for public areas to be leased according to criteria based on the common good. These include the size of the company, animal welfare, but also the regional anchoring and diversity of a company.
