Saxony: Federal government supports the construction of the cycle path between Leipzig and Schkeuditz

Dresden/Leipzig (dpa/sn) - The federal government wants to support the construction of a high-speed cycle connection between Leipzig and Schkeuditz (Northern Saxony district) with around 1.95 million euros. The connection is part of the cycle connection between Halle and Leipzig, said the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Central German Metropolitan Region, an association of cities, districts, universities, chambers of industry and commerce and companies, on Wednesday. The funds are intended to enable further planning of the cycle path.

The connections are intended to make cycling safer and more comfortable, it said. In Saxony, a total of eleven corridors were identified for the planned express cycle route connection. Economics Minister Martin Dulig (SPD) was pleased with the support: "Together with the municipal actors, we would like to establish cycle highways in Saxony as a completely new quality of cycling infrastructure," he said.
