Kamenz (dpa / sn) - Only every fourth professorship at Saxony's universities is occupied by a woman. While the proportion of women among university staff was 55.1 percent overall, it was only 24.8 percent among full-time professors, as the State Office for Statistics informed on Thursday (as of December 1, 2021). In terms of individual subject groups, the proportion of female professors is lowest in engineering at 13.2 percent and highest in the humanities (42.1 percent). In contrast, more than two thirds of the employees (70.3 percent) in the non-scientific area are women.

Overall, the number of employees at the universities including their clinics rose by 1.4 percent to just over 47,400, of which more than 5,500 were student assistants. For comparison: Four years earlier (2017) the total number was 44,070. According to the information, the largest increase was recorded by the administrative colleges with a plus of 2.4 percent.
